What is Off-Page SEO? If you have any online presence that has a physical presence such as an e-commerce, online influencer or even a real store, you’ve certainly heard of what Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is.

Building a website may seem easy, but building a website and optimizing a website for success are two very different things. To capture what you’re looking for from the online arena, you need to understand the basics of SEO.

SEO includes two areas: on-page SEO and off-page SEO.

Fundamentals

SEO aims to drive organic traffic to your site. Organic traffic depends on several factors, but SEO drives organic traffic by ensuring your site is easily found through relevant searches and links.

On-page SEO is everything you do on your website, while off-page SEO is everything you do outside of your website to improve your ranking.

Domains

One of the ways to build your off-page SEO is to refer to domains. You can create your website and content, but you need to prove that your website is valid elsewhere. A referrer domain, which is another website with a link pointing directly to your site, is called a backlink, and the website it comes from is called a referring domain.

When you have a higher Domain Authority (AO) ranking than your site, it’s helpful to have domains that refer with your backlinks. You often don’t know the number of domains pointing to your site, but there are free online resources that can provide this information. Also, there is a strong correlation between the number of unique referrer domains and your site’s ranking, so building these backlinks is essential for SEO.

Connection Authority

Consider the weight of the referral domain – those with higher rankings have higher link authority. Therefore, a link with a higher authority is more valuable to your rankings than a link with a lower authority.

If your site has a DA rank of 40, you want backlinks from referrer domains that rank higher than 40, preferably much higher. The higher the DA, the more authority Google gives that link, and thus your ranking will rise.

Dofollow vs Nofollow

Nofollow links do not contribute to page ranking while dofollow links do. Nofollow links are associated with paid, promotional links. For example, if you are affiliated with an organization to promote your products or services, these links should be nofollow

Anchor Text and Relevance

When a referral field contains your link, clicking the link text will take you to the content. Anchor text is the word or words that appear as clickable in the content. The actual link is the full URL target. That’s why it’s important that the anchor text is relevant to the URL it’s redirecting visitors to. Links and anchor text should be natural and appropriate.

The more relevant links you have to your site, the higher you can rank. Links improve SEO if they are relevant, but website relevance is also taken into account.

Traffic

Organic traffic helps boost SEO by linking to referring pages. The SEO strategy is to approach link building by looking for links from high-value websites. Creating a link is useful even if the link has little or no traffic.

Non-Link Considerations

Not all off-page SEO reviews include links. Remember, your goal is to drive organic traffic. This strategy works particularly well for local businesses because it aims to capture local rather than worldwide traffic.

Name, Address, Phone (NAP)

NAP strategy is your business on Google Maps, Yelp, etc. It works when it’s in places. This is considered citations that allow customers to find you locally. Research your local competitors and use similar citation strategies.

Brand Promises

There are ways to get your brand mentioned by guest posts, podcasts, partnering with industry bloggers and influencers, and even using viral marketing strategies. These marketing strategies pay off when timed correctly.

Job Profile

Once you have a physical storefront, expanding your online presence is crucial. Google’s business information tool, Google My Business (GMB), allows business owners to manage their online presence on Google, such as Maps and Search. Ideally, you want your business listed with as much information as possible. This means being included in the GMB and will have some influence on how Google ranks your online presence.
